Aircraft Noise Ombudsman
ANO
2010 – present
Independent office that reviews how Airservices Australia, and later also the Department of Defence, handle complaints about aircraft noise and consult communities on noise matters, and recommends improvements.
How it came into existence
Established in 2010 by the board of Airservices Australia under a charter, following the commitment in the 2009 National Aviation Policy White Paper to an independent aircraft noise ombudsman. It is not a statutory office or a PGPA entity, but it has its own small staff, reports publicly and works independently of Airservices management. Its remit was later extended, by arrangement with the Department of Defence, to Defence's management of aircraft noise; the year is not confirmed.
