Office headed by the Australian Government Chief Information Officer that led whole-of-government ICT policy, investment oversight and procurement and ran shared online services such as australia.gov.au.
How it came into existence
Established on 8 April 2004 in the Communications, Information Technology and the Arts portfolio, taking over the government ICT and online services functions of the abolished National Office for the Information Economy and the information access functions of AusInfo. After the 2004 election it moved to the Finance and Administration portfolio, operating as part of the Department of Finance and Administration.

AusInfo's information access functions passed to AGIMO when NOIE was broken up; whether AusInfo was by then run within NOIE is not confirmed.
Changes during its life
- 26 October 2004Moved from the Communications, Information Technology and the Arts portfolio to the Finance and Administration portfolio, becoming part of the Department of Finance and Administration.
How it ended
Phased out in 2015: its online services role passed to the new Digital Transformation Office, while its ICT policy, investment and procurement work remained in the Department of Finance until moved to the Digital Transformation Agency in 2016.
