How it came into existence
Took its current name on 1 July 2004, when the National Registration Authority for Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals was renamed; it continues under the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals (Administration) Act 1992.

Changes during its life
- 2016The Public Governance, Performance and Accountability (Location of Corporate Commonwealth Entities) Order 2016 required the authority's principal office to be located in Armidale, New South Wales, beginning its relocation from Canberra.
- 2019Its head office was operating in Armidale by 2019, completing the relocation from Canberra.
