Department of Reconciliation and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs
DRATSIA
30 January 2001 – 26 November 2001
Short-lived Department of State that supported the Minister for Reconciliation and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs, advising on Indigenous affairs and reconciliation policy and overseeing the portfolio, which included the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC).
How it came into existence
Created by the administrative arrangements that took effect on 30 January 2001, when Philip Ruddock, already Minister for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs, became Minister for Reconciliation and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs and Indigenous affairs became a portfolio of its own.
